For water-loop heat pump systems, each zone heat pump provides individual temperature control. This allows each occupant to control heating or cooling regardless of season, during or after hours, regardless of what other zones are doing.

Zones served by single heat pumps can be as small as 200 square feet [20 square meters] or as large as many thousands of square feet (hundreds of square meters).
