Chicago Library Installing ClimateMaster Geothermal Heat Pump System

June 12, 2015 – You may think geothermal is a niche heating and cooling technology used only by those eco friendly movement to help mother Earth. But a Chicago-area public library is one more case which proves that theory wrong.

The Willamette, Ill., Public Library is currently having a geothermal system installed. This recent article in the Chicago Tribune talks about the project.

A new, state-of-the-art HVAC system for the library was sorely needed. The old heating and cooling system was 60 years old.

So why did the city choose geothermal over other ways to heat and cool? According to the article:

“The cost of geothermal heating and cooling is incredibly low, and it’s a very green system, so we’re really pleased to be able to introduce it into the library,” (Library Director Ellen) Clark said.

So being eco friendly was a factor in the decision to go with geothermal. But a more important factor to library and city officials was the much lower heating and cooling costs that geothermal heat pump systems provide.

How much can a geothermal system save you on your home’s utility bills? Use our fast and easy geothermal savings calculator to see how much money geothermal can save you.

Though the library’s lawn is feeling (and showing) the effects of having the loop system installed, you can rest assured that disruption to your home’s lawn wouldn’t be near as noticeable.

Then factor in the long-term financial and energy savings that geothermal systems produce (it’s not uncommon for our geothermal systems to last over three decades), and lawn disruption is even more temporary.

As our site points out, there are well over one million geothermal heat pump systems in homes across the United States. There are also many ground source heat pump systems heating and cooling commercial buildings across the country, and many of those are ClimateMaster systems. The Wilmette Public Library building is one example of hundreds.
