Energy Initiative

House Speaker Chris Benge held a news conference Thursday morning at Habitat for Humanity's Hope Crossing neighborhood where homeowners are using geothermal technology.

Benge announced his plans to file legislation requesting a five percent tax credit for those who install the geothermal system.

We also heard from a homeowner using that technology.

Kim Willison, a homeowner who uses geothermal technology, says, "It's going to allow my utility bills to be cut more than half than what I'm used to paying and I will be able to help my daughter and help my son go to college."

The proposed credit is meant to cover some of the upfront costs associated with buying a new geothermal system.
